Environmental Sustainability

We design with the environment in mind.

At Lexmark, our definition of true sustainability is the ability to meet the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. As a result, we continue to work hard to achieve true sustainability in every aspect of our business. Every day, we endeavour to find more opportunities to reduce our impact on the environment. From our manufacturing and distribution processes, through to educating our customers on how best to use our products and solutions, all the way to the responsible recycling of our products at their end of life.

Lexmark's commitment to continual improvement in our environmental, health and safety programs is focused in these three areas:

The way we design our products

Our design processes ensure that every new product we introduce meets our environmental design goals as well as the requirements set forth by international governing bodies and regulatory agencies.

Lexmark’s Design for Environment program focuses on minimising the environmental impacts of our products in these key areas:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Paper and supplies conservation
  • Product durability and upgradability
  • Materials selection and substitution
  • Acoustics
  • Packaging

The way we manage resources

Lexmark is a good environmental steward of natural resource by practicing energy conservation, pollution prevention and waste minimisation. We provide recycling programs at our sites, product recycling, and cartridge remanufacturing and recycling.

The way we live and work

Lexmark acts responsibly toward the communities in which our employees live and work. As a good corporate citizen, we employ environmental and health and safety management systems, consistently adhere to regulatory compliance, and participate in community partnerships.

Doing our homework

Every year, Lexmark invests in discovering innovative design solutions that not only optimise the function and value of our products, but also maximise their environmental performance. Our research has shown that over the life of a Lexmark product, the most significant impact (approximately 80%) occurs during the ‘Use’ phase; for example, when it is in operation in your home or office. So, whilst it’s critical that our product design, manufacturing, distribution and recycling programs are environmentally world class, it also means we have a responsibility to support you in reducing the environmental impact when you use our products.

Lexmark ink and toner cartridges are 100% recyclable.
