Lexmark International, Inc. (NYSE: LXK) today introduced three new single-function monochrome laser printers that combine the power and versatility of high-performance printers with the business-enhancing solutions that previously were found only on higher priced multifunction devices.

The Lexmark T640, T642 and T644 are designed with a new, innovative user interface that gives these printers the ability to deliver customized solutions using the Lexmark Document Solutions Suite that, until now, has only been available on Lexmark multifunction printers. The operator panel’s numeric pad and USB Direct interface add outstanding ease-of-use. These features are part of a common architecture also found on the other laser printers unveiled today: the Lexmark W840 and the Lexmark C920.

“The functionality and ease of use once only found on our workgroup multifunction devices is now offered on Lexmark’s new lineup of workgroup printers,” said Paul Rooke, Lexmark executive vice president and president of its Printing Solutions and Services Division. “These printers have the ease-of-use that customers will love, the security they need and the solutions that will improve their business.”

Easy solutions and serviceability
Making the T640 family especially attractive to the selected industries – such as financial services, retail, healthcare and the public sector – where Lexmark has developed industry specific, customizable solutions, is the flexibility and versatility of the user interface. The printer can be easily customized to simplify paper-intensive processes for the workplace.

Retrieving and printing information from the Internet is easy with the T640 family of network laser printers.  Bookmarks to Web sites can be stored in the printer and users can easily select them to quickly download and print documents and Web pages directly from the Internet.

The user interface facilitates new standards of serviceability with easy-to-understand graphics – not just narrative instructions – that illustrate common corrections. Most situations are remedied with a “show me” screen that gives the user an illustration of the area that needs to be addressed. Many situations also have a “tell me more” screen which walks the user through specific adjustments, such as changing the size guides for a paper tray. This unmatched ease-of-use feature helps customers help themselves and reduce technical support calls.

Innovation and performance
The products introduced today feature the industry’s first single-function monochrome lasers with a USB Direct interface for convenient PDF printing from flash memory devices.  Users can quickly and easily print documents “PC-free” simply by walking up to the printer and inserting their memory device.

With a rated speed of up to 35 pages per minute (ppm), the Lexmark T640 has the fastest time to first print in its class. At up to 45 ppm, the Lexmark T642 has the industry’s fastest-rated speed for a sub-$800 laser printer. With a rating of up to 50 ppm, the Lexmark T644 has the best price/performance – as well as the fastest processors – in its class.

Security and powerful network printing
The Lexmark T640 family includes several new standard security features for organizations concerned with document and network security. Confidential print jobs can be stored in the printer and easily retrieved later using the intuitive user interface and the 10-digit numeric pad.  Additional security features for printer management and document encryption are also available for the Lexmark T640 family and the Lexmark C920 and W840 announced today.

Networking for the Lexmark T640 family, C920 and W840, is now easier with Lexmark’s new N8000 family of internal print servers that support Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Ethernet and wireless technologies. These security enhancing networking options include:

- the Lexmark N8050 internal wireless card that, with a mix of 802.11g networking, WPA-Enterprise security and IPv6 protocol support, allows the user to place the printer in convenient locations,
- the Lexmark N8030 Fiber print server, which protects confidentiality with the market’s most-secure fiber Ethernet technology, and
- the Lexmark N8020 Gigabit Ethernet server, which processes print jobs through the network faster.

Pricing and availability
Estimated street prices for the base models are $699 for the Lexmark T640, $799 for the Lexmark T642 and $899 for the Lexmark T644. All of these printers also have higher-end models that add such features as networkability and duplexing.
