Lexmark International, Inc. (NYSE: LXK) has introduced a unique authentication solution for laser multifunction products (MFPs) in response to the stringent security standards of the U.S. federal government. Lexmark's solution gives federal government agencies an option for enhanced network security protection for MFPs by locking them so that users cannot copy, fax, scan, print, or initiate workflow processes from the device without first inserting a common access card (CAC) and obtaining authentication. CACs are issued to Department of Defense (DoD) employees and are used to verify identity and security classifications. Lexmark's solution helps ensure that only authorized employees can access the network through an MFP. As a leader in developing customized solutions, Lexmark is the first printer manufacturer to deliver this level of security for MFPs to the federal government. This solution can be adapted for other federal agencies as a common identification standard for all federal employees and contractors in response to the Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12). "By working closely with the federal government, we were able to quickly meet its enhanced security needs by leveraging the flexible architecture of Lexmark's MFP technology. We are pleased to provide a solution that now allows government agencies to take full advantage of the productivity benefits of MFP technology with an enhanced level of network security," said Paul Rooke, Lexmark executive vice president and president of its Printing Solutions and Services Division. Lexmark offers a wide range of other security options, including advanced features such as disk wiping, encryption, IPSec, SSL, SNMPv3, 802.1x and secure user authentication. Lexmark’s offerings enhance secure management, secure network communications and secure information storage and can be customized to meet each customer's unique needs.
