Lexmark unveils package solutionsLexmark International, the printer manufacturer, today announced the launch of a new range of solution packages to meet the demand of businesses looking to address specific business processes and issues. With analysts estimating that printing costs represent between 1-3% of a company’s revenue, it is crucial to control, account and even allocate for this cost element. Utilising its expertise in manufacturing printers, Lexmark has developed a set of solutions which will enable businesses to achieve this.
Today’s announcement marks the start of a new focus from Lexmark in terms of developing specialised printing software solutions to ensure customers are making the most of their printers and MFPs and streamlining their document management processes. Recognising the benefits already being realised through the use of multi-function printers (MFPs), Lexmark has developed four packages aimed at business users which combine the advanced functionality of these devices with compelling software applications. Office Integration Whilst the advantages of MFPs are clear, a major issue for users is the interoperability of these devices with their desktop applications such as email, fax and the Internet. For instance, how can the user most efficiently send a word document they have created on their desktop through the fax without first printing a copy? Lexmark has responded to this need with its office integration package, which seamlessly integrates office tasks and applications. Thus, it becomes possible for users to fax directly from an application through the printer driver, scan a document as a PDF and e-mail it from the MFP and send PDF documents to the printer using a simple drag and drop method. Secure Printing Many organisations struggle to move users from expensive, locally attached printers to network printers due to the concern that sensitive documents will be left lying on the printer for all to see before being collected. Lexmark’s ‘Confidential Print’ feature solves this by ensuring that documents of a sensitive nature do not get mislaid. Simply assign a PIN number to the print job. Once sent to the printer, documents will not print out until the four-digit number is entered. Other solutions within this package include a verify and print function which allows the user to proof check the first copy of the print job in hardcopy at the printer, thereby avoiding wasted paper. Multiple output trays are also offered which can be used to avoid piles of paper ending up on the printer and no one knowing who owns what. Forms on Demand According to Gartner, US$360 billion is spent annually on entering, collecting and validating data using forms. Businesses of all sizes rely on structured pre-printed forms to capture information, such as expense claims etc. Lexmark’s Document Portal Software is a customisable print-on-demand application that automates the distribution and printing of documents from a central server. Using Lexmark’s innovative touch-screen MFP technology, users simply go to the device, select the form required, key in the number of copies and the printer does the rest. MFP Upgrade Solution For customers wishing to upgrade their existing Lexmark printers to take full advantage of the benefits of MFPs, Lexmark is now able to offer a Multifunction attachment for its T-Series of printers. The attachment simply connects to top of the Lexmark printer, transforming it into a high performance printing, copying, faxing and scanning device. Once connected, Lexmark’s MarkVision™ network printer management software centralises the management of a firm’s distributed devices, providing IT managers with control over both document production (print/copy) and delivery (fax/scan). "More and more organisations are waking up to the realisation that printing can have a significant impact on their bottom line," said Jane Cronin, director of channels and marketing for Lexmark UK. "With the launch of these new solutions offerings, we are demonstrating to our customers that we can provide them with the applications necessary to make the most of increasingly advanced printing devices to increase efficiency and reduce costs."
