Paul J. Curlander

Paul J. Curlander,
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Paul Curlander has been chairman and chief executive officer of Lexmark International, Inc., since April 1999, after serving as president and chief executive officer since May 1998. In February 1997, he was named president and chief operating officer and was elected to the Lexmark board of directors. In this capacity he was responsible for the worldwide, day-to-day operations of the corporation.

From January 1995 to February 1997, Curlander served as executive vice president, operations, with responsibility for overseeing Lexmark's printer and supplies divisions including worldwide development, manufacturing and marketing.

From February 1993 to February 1995, he was vice president and general manager for Lexmark's printer business. From April 1991 through February 1993, he was general manager for printers, with responsibility for worldwide printer development and manufacturing.

Curlander spent 17 years with IBM in various product development and management positions. He joined IBM in 1974 as an electrical engineer in Boulder, Colo. Five years later, he joined IBM's Office Products Division, where he began working in the company's printer technology group. Over the next six years he held numerous engineering and management assignments in the IBM Boulder laboratory. In 1986, he was named product manager for laser printers and led IBM's entry into the desktop laser business. In 1989, he was named director of printer products.

Curlander holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado and a master's degree and doctorate in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
