» Environmental Accomplishments – In 2005, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, through its WasteWise program, awarded Lexmark a Gold Achievement Award for its significant accomplishments in using recycled materials. Lexmark was also recognized with an Honorable Mention in the Large Business category. In addition, six of our seven manufacturing facilities have achieved ISO 14001 certification for their management systems.
» Recycling – Nearly 5 million pounds (2.3 million kilograms) of paper and cardboard waste and nearly 2 million pounds (1 million kilograms) of scrap metal – that’s how much we were able to keep out of the solid waste stream in the past year through waste minimization programs at our corporate headquarters alone. Lexmark also collected and recycled 4 million pounds of electronics through its ongoing collection efforts in 2005.
» Environmental Partnerships – Lexmark continually pursues environmental partnerships with local communities for the prevention of air, water and land pollution. Our efforts include local assistance through donations of money, equipment and volunteers for projects such as tree plantings, litter clean-up days, environmental education programs and waste collection events. Since 2003, Lexmark has organized an annual global Earth Day celebration at our worldwide manufacturing facilities. Employees not only participate in our company-wide activities, but also partner with their local communities to promote environmental awareness through voluntary projects.
Lexmark is committed to improving our environment through the design of energy efficient products. Lexmark was a charter partner in the ENERGY STAR program, and virtually all Lexmark printers are ENERGY STAR qualified. We continue to drive down product energy consumption, reducing the energy used in power saving modes by up to 70% from 1995 to 2005.
