2007

Nov.
Reaffirming its commitment to environmental, health and safety, Lexmark's Lexington site once again achieved recertification to the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. It was the first site audited by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to meet the newly revised OHSAS 18001:2007 standard.
Lexmark's consumer products facility in Chihuahua was granted recertification by BSI Management Systems for its quality and environmental, health and safety management systems. For the first time in history, the audits found no non-conformities in all three systems, validating that they are in full compliance with the international standards.
Oct.
Lexmark's Juárez PS&SD site received an award from the state government of Chihuahua for fully complying with the state's legal environmental requirements. More than 100 companies participated in the program, but Lexmark was one of only 28 to receive an award.

At its Lexington Earth Day Fair, Lexmark received an award from Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher as a master level member in KY EXCEL, a voluntary environmental leadership program implemented by the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection.
Lexmark employees in Lexington, Ky, teamed with several community partners to clean up Cane Run Creek, which supplies drinking water to neighboring communities.
Lexmark held a series of Electronics Take-Back Events across the U.S. which yielded nearly 43 tons of consumer electronics that were dismantled and recycled.
Lexmark Philippines once again was awarded Outstanding Environmental Performer for the Year by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority under the Large Semiconductor and Electronics Industry Category. The national award is the third for Lexmark Philippines.

Lexmark announced the creation of the Lexmark Equipment Collection Program, part of the company's ongoing effort to provide customers with environmentally friendly alternatives when disposing of end-of-life Lexmark products.
Aug.
Lexmark signed on as an industrial partner in the U.S. EPA's ENERGY STAR program, which helps businesses and individuals protect the environment through continuous improvement of energy performance. Lexmark previously established a partnership with the U.S. EPA by participating in the U.S. ENERGY STAR printer program.
Lexmark joined the U.S. EPA's Plug-In To eCycling campaign, a partnership between the EPA and businesses to take positive steps toward collecting used electrical and electronic equipment.

Dell, Lexmark and the National Cristina Foundation host a free technology recycling day at the University of Kentucky. The event collected nearly 50 tons of unwanted computers, printers and other electronic equipment for recycling.

Lexmark Philippines received the Outstanding Environmental Performance for 2001 award for the company's commitment to environmental responsibility in every aspect of product design, manufacturing, distribution and use.

Lexmark Philippines, in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress, launched a project to restore the mangrove area around Olango Island. The project planted a total of 15,000 seedlings to promote environmental awareness among the residents of Olango Island and to preserve and sustain the use of coastal fisheries.

The city of Boulder, Colo., recognized Lexmark's environmental efforts with a Perfect Industrial Wastewater Discharge Compliance Award for the second consecutive year.

2000

Aug.
Lexmark launched the Lexmark Rainforest Project, to help increase environmental awareness among customers and preserve the world's rainforests. The project supported the work of the Rainforest Foundation and The Tropical Rainforest Coalition, two charities that protect the indigenous peoples, plants and animals of the rainforests.

Lexmark was recognized as a partner of The Reforest the Bluegrass Program in Lexington, which was designated a Five Star Restoration Site by the U.S. EPA.

Lexmark's Boulder, Colo. facility, received the Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE) Manufacturer's Certification for the site's voluntary efforts in pollution prevention, making it one of the first two manufacturing companies in Boulder to do so.

Lexmark received the Kentucky Governor's Environmental Excellence Award for industrial environmental leadership due to Lexmark's outstanding efforts to protect the environment.

Nearly 150 representatives from all regions in France attended an environmental conference at Lexmark's Orleans site. This event was organized by Lexmark to reaffirm the company's commitment to environmental leadership.

Lexmark sponsored the first Reforest the Bluegrass event — a unique reforestation project to prevent water run-off, reduce flooding downstream and attract more wildlife.

Sept.
The Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association recognized Lexmark's environmental commitment with one of its most prestigious awards — the 1998 Industrial Waste Treatment Award.

Lexmark was named ENERGY STAR Office Equipment Printer Partner of the Year for 1997 by the U.S. EPA.
Feb.
The U.S. EPA recognized Lexmark with the Hammer Award for the company's successful participation in the EPA's 33/50 Program.

1996

Dec.
Following an extensive review of nearly 3,000 companies in France's central region, Lexmark Orleans was rated the top company for its environmental efforts during 1995.
In 1996, Lexmark organized a symposium in Orleans, France that brought Green Cross together with other high-tech industries in Europe to explore ways to reconcile business growth and environmental protection.

Lexmark received one of 33 environmental excellence awards from The Trane Co., in honor of Lexmark's use of alternative refrigerants and energy-efficient technologies.

Lexmark's Orleans, France site became one of the first five European companies to receive ISO 14001 certification, the globally recognized standard for environmental management.

Lexmark's U.S. environmental team received national recognition for its commitment to office recycling at the first annual National Office Recycling Awards Program in Washington D.C.

Lexmark announced charter membership in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ENERGY STAR printer program.

May
Lexmark's Boulder, Colo. facility was one of three companies out of 350 participants to receive the Outstanding Recycling Program Award from Eco-Cycle, a Boulder County recycling center.
Lexmark helped found the National Office Paper Recycling Project — an awareness program aimed at increasing paper recycling and purchasing of recycled paper.
Jan.
Operation ReSource is introduced in Australia.

1991

June
Less than three months after the company's inception, Lexmark introduced Operation ReSource, a free to the customer laser cartridge recycling program for the United States and Canada. Lexmark equipped a workshop for physically challenged adults to disassemble the cartridges for recycling in a safe environment. Lexmark pays for the labor to disassemble with the workshop keeping the proceeds from recycling the materials recovered.
