Chip Technology

A few facts about chip technology

Use of semiconductor chips is common in most of today’s electronic products, and they are essential to the operation of Lexmark cartridges.

Chips perform many functions, including performance and diagnostics to enhance the output, quality and reliability of our current product line. Use of semiconductor technology in toner cartridges facilitates efficient remanufacturing by helping to determine the wear on internal components so we can replace just the worn parts during the reconditioning process.

The chip on the Lexmark Return Program cartridge also helps enforce a customer agreement to send the used toner cartridge only to Lexmark for remanufacturing and recycling in exchange for an up-front discount. This practice has contributed to a ninefold increase of returns to us over the past seven years.

In our inkjet printer consumables, semiconductor technology actually enables the function of placing the ink on the paper, which makes printing possible.
