Overview

A network is a group of computer systems linked together for the purpose of sharing resources, such as printers, files, or an Internet connection.

The All-In-One is a network-capable device and can be networked in one of three ways:

Requirements:

You must purchase a Lexmark print server, such as the Lexmark N4000e.

Note:  Lexmark print servers are available only to certain countries/regions.

Requirements:

You must install the driver software on all computers that will use the All-In-One.

The host computer must be on anytime the client wants to print.

Requirements:

The host computer must be on any time the client wants to print.

Using a Lexmark print server

When the All-In-One has not been attached to your computer

If you are connecting the All-In-One to a Lexmark print server, and the All-In-One has not previously been attached to your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Follow the setup instructions that came with the All-In-One.
  2. Do not insert the All-In-One software CD yet.
  3. Connect the USB cable to the All-In-One and to the Lexmark print server.
  4. Connect the power supply to the All-In-One and to the wall outlet.
  5. Connect the power cord to the Lexmark print server and to the wall outlet.
  6. Make sure the All-In-One and the Lexmark print server are on.
  7. Attach the print server to the network using an Ethernet cable.
  8. Insert the All-In-One software CD, and follow the instructions on the computer screen.

Note: Be sure to click the Network button on the first dialog box.

When the All-In-One has been previously attached to your computer

If you are connecting the All-In-One to a Lexmark print server, that has been previously connected to the computer, follow these steps:

Windows 98/Me

Windows XP/2000

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the All-In-One to the computer at the computer.
  2. Connect the USB cable that you disconnected from the computer to the Lexmark print server.
  3. Click Start  Settings  Printers.
  4. Right-click the Lexmark 3300 Series All-In-One icon, and then select Properties.
  5. Click the Details tab.

The port name for the All-In-One is 3300_Series_123456 where 123456 is replaced by the last six characters of the MAC address.

The MAC address is printed on the bottom of the print server.

  • If the port exists, select 3300_Series_(last six characters of the MAC address). Click OK. You are finished.
  • If the port does not exist in the list, continue.
  • Click Add Port from the Details tab.
  • Select 3300 Series Port from the list, and then click OK.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the All-In-One to the computer at the computer.
  2. Connect the USB cable that you disconnected from the computer to the Lexmark print server.
  3. Click Start  Settings  Printers and Faxes.
  4. Right-click the Lexmark 3300 Series All-In-One icon, and then select Properties.
  5. Click the Ports tab.

The port name for the All-In-One is 3300_Series_123456 where 123456 is replaced by the last six characters of the MAC address.

The MAC address is printed on the bottom of the print server.

  • If the port exists, select 3300_Series_(last six characters of the MAC address). Click OK. You are finished.
  • If the port does not exist in the list, continue.
  • Select Local Port, and then click New Port.
  • Select 3300 Series Port from the list, and then click OK.
  • Follow the instructions on the computer screen to complete installation.


Using the peer-to-peer method

With this method, the printer driver is fully installed on each client computer. Network clients retain control of driver modifications. The client computer handles the print job processing.

  1. Follow the instructions on the Lexmark 3300 Series setup sheet to install the hardware and software on the host computer.
  2. Make sure the host computer is shared. For more information, see Sharing the All-In-One.
  3. From the client computer, insert the All-In-One software CD.
  4. Follow the instructions on the client computer screen.
  5. Select The printer is on a network when asked how the All-In-One is connected to the computer.
  6. Select Peer-to-Peer when asked how the All-In-One is connected to the network.
  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each of the client computers.

Using the point-and-print method

With this method, the printer driver is partially installed on each of the client computers networked to the host computer. The host computer controls driver changes and handles print job processing.

  1. Follow the instructions on the Lexmark 3300 Series setup sheet to install hardware and software on the host computer.
  2. Make sure the host computer is shared. For more information, see Sharing the All-In-One.
  3. From the client computer, double-click Network Neighborhood, My Network Places, or My Network (depending on the operating system).
  4. Find the host name of the server and look for the shared name you assigned to the All-In-One.
  5. Right-click the All-In-One icon, and then select Open, Install, or Connect (depending on the operating system).

Sharing the All-In-One

  1. Click Start  Settings  Control Panel.
  2. Select Network and Dial-up Connections.
  3. Select the network connection.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Make sure a check mark appears next to File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. If no check mark appears, click the box next to File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.
  6. Click OK.

Sharing the All-In-One from the host computer

  1. Click Start  Settings  Printers (or Printers and Faxes).
  2. Right-click the Lexmark 3300 Series All-In-One icon.
  3. Click Sharing.
  4. Click Shared As, and then type a distinctive name for the All-In-One.
  5. Click OK.
