Taking photos with a digital camera and printing them out on a printer allows you to have total control of the photos, from size to colour to quality. Here are a few things you need to know in order to get great photos from your Lexmark printer.
Camera selection and use
Buy the best digital camera you can afford. In this case, you get what you pay for! Here are some key features to look for:
- A glass (not plastic) lens
- Minimum 3 megapixels
- PictBridge compatible. PictBridge technology will allow you to print directly from your camera without using a PC or image-editing software.

Taking photos
Take your photos at the highest resolution your camera offers. The resolution defines the sharpness of a digital image, and is often expressed in terms of how many pixels per inch (ppi) your image has in both height and width. Many cameras have settings such as "Standard," "Normal," "High Quality," or "Super High Quality." Check your manual to determine the specific resolutions these terms represent. Depending on your camera, the resolution settings could range from standard to fine, or small to large.
| Choosing Photo paper |

|
This is an easy, but very important consideration. Using photo paper over plain paper will result in superior prints. Lexmark recommends Lexmark Photo Paper for use with Lexmark printers. Lexmark Photo Paper is optimized for use with Lexmark inks and inkjet printers, and offers brilliant colour reproduction and a glossy sheen, which makes it perfect for all your photo needs.

Ink colours
The more colours your printer can print, the better. It will help you get realistic-looking photos. This is especially true when printing things like flesh tones – and it’s likely there will be some people in your photos! Many Lexmark printers can print up to six colours – perfect for professional quality photos. When printing photos, using a photo cartridge in conjunction with your colour cartridges gives six colour printing and (rather than a colour cartridge with a black cartridge) will also help yield quality prints.
Print at highest quality setting
Just as you should take photos at the highest resolution possible, you should also print at the highest resolution your printer has. The greater the dots per inch (dpi), the more detail the photo will have.
