Mums and dads, here's a creative activity that your kids will find fun and challenging! It is a great way to spend time with your kids on a project that will result in a cherished keepsake.
Follow these instructions to make your own, personal, homemade photo album. You can create one using any Lexmark printer. It's easy!
Here's What You Need:
- Any Lexmark Inkjet Printer (check user manual for compatibility with photo paper). With Lexmark printers, you can print high quality photos--without going to a film development center. Your kids can even be camera person, and the dark room dynamo, too! You can also document your photos with built- in text!
- A digital camera. Take plenty of pictures with your digital camera. You can save these to a digital camera memory card, and insert the card right into the Photo Jetprinter to print out your photos. (Note: digital cameras are like printers, the higher the resolution the better. It's worth it to spend a little more to buy a better quality camera.)
- Photo paper. Use Lexmark photo paper – it has been optimised for Lexmark printers and will make a world of difference in your output.
If you have those three things, you and your kids can work together, following these steps:
Step 1: Take lots of cool pictures!
Photograph everything--right down to what you had for breakfast. It's better to have too much material to choose from than too little!
Step 2: Edit your photos.
Using photo editing software, you can frame or crop your photos, fit several to a page, and present them in all kinds of creative, funky ways.
Step 3: Layout.
You can lay out your photos to illustrate a story, or narrate each one individually. With the printer you can create text messages right on the picture.
Step 4: Print!
When you are satisfied, go ahead and print out your pages. You will be amazed what your Lexmark printer can do when paired with photo paper!
Step 5: Presentation.
Depending on how fancy you'd like to get, you can choose to create your album in a couple of different ways. Here are a few cool ideas:
- Three-hole punch each page, loop ribbon through the holes, and tie together.
- Buy a plastic report binder, with a built-in fastener that holds the pages.
- Take the pages to a print shop, and have them professionally bound. Many copy shops do this as well. The process isn't very expensive.

Now you've got the most unique album on the block, and your kids have a better understanding of how to use your digital camera and printer. Your kids might find that they really enjoy editing their own photos, and they may want to carry it over to create other things like report covers and book covers.
