Mickey Kantor

Mickey Kantor, Chairman

Mickey Kantor was formerly the United States Trade Representative and later the United States Secretary of Commerce. Mr Kantor is currently a partner at international law firm Mayer Brown based in Washington DC.  Mr Kantor received a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University in 1961. He then served four years as an officer in the US Navy, and subsequently earned a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University in 1968. 


Richard C. Blum

Richard C. Blum

Richard C. Blum is the Founder and Chairman of Richard C. Blum & Associates, Inc., the general partner of Blum Capital Partners, L.P.. He is also Chairman of Montgomery Street Partners, Blum Capital’s exclusive vehicle to continue its investment strategy in real estate and real estate related assets. He was a co-founder of Newbridge Capital.  Mr Blum graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his B.S. in business administration in 1958, and an MBA in 1959.


Phillip Cassou

Phillip Cassou

Phillip Cassou was previously a Strategic Account Manager at AT&T from 2008 to 2010 and prior to that held various positions at IBM from 1968 to 2008 including Industry Sector Executive and Area Executive, Houston Branch Manager and other marketing and management positions.  Mr Cassou received a Bachelor’s degree in 1968 in Electronics and Physics, a MBA degree in 1974, and a Juris Doctor in 1980, all from the University of San Francisco.

Katherine Chao is a Partner at CG Uhlenberg LLP. Kathy has practised over 24 years in public accounting providing accounting, auditing, tax services, management advice and business strategy consulting to clients in industries ranging from high-tech, biotech, venture capital, real estate development and management, professional services, governmental entities and many more.


Steven Chu

Steven Chu

Steve Chu was formerly the United States Secretary of Energy from 2009 to 2013. Prior to his appointment as the Secretary of Energy, Dr. Chu was a professor of physics and molecular and cellular biology at the University of California Berkeley and the Director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.  Dr. Chu received both a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the University of Rochester in 1970. He then earned his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California Berkeley in 1976.


Rich Geruson

Rich Geruson

In addition to serving on the Board, Rich Geruson is also president and chief executive officer of Lexmark International.  Prior to joining Lexmark in October 2017, Geruson held numerous executive leadership roles in the high-tech industry, including CEO of Phoenix Technologies, the premier provider of firmware and optimisation software for PCs, tablets and embedded Internet of Things devices.  In addition to a bachelor’s degree in economics from La Salle University, Geruson has completed three graduate programmes from the University of Oxford including a master’s degree, and a doctorate in economics.


S. Shankar Sastry

S. Shankar Sastry

S. Shankar Sastry is currently the Dean of Engineering at University of California, Berkeley and the faculty director of the Blum Centre for Developing Economies. From 2004 to 2007 he was the Director of CITRIS (Centre for Information Technology in the Interests of Society) an interdisciplinary centre spanning UC Berkeley, Davis, Merced and Santa Cruz.  Dr. Sastry received his Ph.D. degree in 1981 from the University of California, Berkeley.


Wenhong Kevin Sun

Wenhong Kevin Sun

During the past decade, Dr.  Wenhong  Kevin  Sun  has  served  as  the  R&D  director  for  United  States  SETi  Company,  which  is  the  world’s  first  company  developed  the  world’s  first  short-wavelength  ultraviolet  UV  LED  and  has  the  source technology for Radio-Frequency Devices.


Laura D'Andrea Tyson

Laura D'Andrea Tyson

Laura D’Andrea Tyson is a Distinguished Professor of the Graduate School, Director of the Institute for Business and Social Impact at the Berkeley Haas School of Business. She is also the chair of the Board of Trustees of the Blum Centre for Developing Economies at the University of California, Berkeley.   Dr. Tyson has a summa cum laude undergraduate degree from Smith College and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
