Embedded Systems Engineer

The ASIC Engineer develops, designs, verifies, and documents ASIC/FPGA/CPLD projects.  Assignments include the analysis of all aspects from high-level design to synthesis, place and route, timing and power utilization and low-level firmware function development. Typically uses equipment to establish operation data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results.

  • Determines architecture design, digital logic design, and system simulation.
  • Develops firmware for embedded applications. 

The position will consist of working in four main areas:

1.      Design of image processing, motor control, processor and memory interface, communication and other hardware assist functions for SoC ASICs.

2.      Verification of image processing, motor control, processor and memory interface, communication and other hardware assist functions for SoC ASICs.  This includes modeling of functions utilizing C/C++ language and scripting skills.

3.      Documentation of hardware assist functions for both design and test specifications.  This includes analysis and characterization of fabricated silicon upon design completion.

4.      Implementation of low-level firmware to interface with and test ASIC/FPGA/CPLD hardware assist.


Education and Experience Desired:

  • BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the industry.
  • Helpful experience and knowledge: VLSI design, ARM, RISC-V, ASIC/FPGA design, Synopsys EDA tools, Mentor Graphics EDA tools and VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog, C/C++, LabVIEW, Perl, Python.
  • The engineer should be familiar with typical electrical laboratory equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and pattern generators.
  • The position also requires a good understanding of computer hardware, file servers, networks and database management.

Security Experiences Desired:

  • Implementing various secure authentication methods/standards & other cryptographic functions for custom security ASICs.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional development teams to implement secure solutions for both printer development and manufacturing activities.
  • Knowledge about or experience with the latest advancements in technologies utilized to protect secure ICs from various types of security attacks.
  • Skills to further strengthen devices through both hardware and firmware system resources to reduce vulnerabilities.
