Learning about Lexmark Fast Pics

Lexmark Fast Pics is part of the Lexmark Imaging Studio. It gives you several options for printing and transferring photos from your memory card.

Note: To use Lexmark Fast Pics, your printer must be connected to a computer.

  1. Start Lexmark Fast Pics by either:

Lexmark Fast Pics appears.

Note: If your digital camera does not support DPOF printing (see Printing a DPOF selection), the DPOF button will not be displayed.

From here you can:

  1. Click Save Them On The PC to save photos.
  2. Double-click the folder on your memory card to see your photos.
  3. Click to place a check mark next to each photo you want to save.
  1. After choosing photos to save, click Next.

The following dialog box appears.

  1. Select the location where you want to save your photos.
  2. Select your Save options.

Note: Do not select Yes unless you want to delete the photos from the memory card permanently.

  1. Click Save Now.
  2. Click OK.

Using the Lexmark Solution Center

The Lexmark Solution Center (LSC) is a valuable information resource.

To open the LSC:

  1. Open Lexmark Imaging Studio. For help, see Working with the Lexmark Imaging Studio.
  2. Click the Maintain/Troubleshoot button.

The LSC appears.

The LSC consists of six tabs: Printer Status, How To, Troubleshooting, Maintenance, Contact Information, and Advanced.

Printer Status (Main dialog box)

  • View the status of the printer. For example, while printing, the status is Busy Printing.
  • View the ink levels of the print cartridges.

Learn how to:

  • Find and change settings.
  • Use basic features.

Troubleshooting

  • Learn tips about the current status.
  • Solve printer problems.

Using the paper type sensor

Your printer has a paper type sensor that detects these media types:

By default, the paper type sensor is on. However, if you want to turn the paper type sensor off and select your paper type:

  1. With your document open, click File  Print.

The Print dialog box appears.

  1. From the Print dialog box, click Properties, Preferences, or Options.
  2. From the Print Properties dialog box, select the Quality/Copies tab.
  3. From the Paper Type area, select Use my choice and choose your paper type from the drop-down box.

Note: Your printer can detect the type of paper you are using. It cannot detect the paper size.

Turning the paper type sensor back on

  1. With your document open, click File  Print.

The Print dialog box appears.

  1. From the Print dialog box, click Properties, Preferences, or Options.
  2. From the Print Properties dialog box, select the Quality/Copies tab.
  3. From the Paper Type area, select Use printer sensor.

Using Print Properties

Print Properties is the software that controls the printing function. You can change the settings in Print Properties based on the type of project you want to create. You can open Print Properties from most programs:

  1. From the program File menu, click File  Print.
  2. In the Print dialog box, click the Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup button (depending on the program).

The Print Properties screen displays along with the I Want To menu.

Changes made to the settings apply only to the file you have open.

Print Properties can also be accessed from the Printers folder without opening any other program:

  1. Select Start  Settings  Printers.
  2. Right-click Lexmark 910 Series and select Printing Preferences.
  3. Make the changes you want and click OK.

Changes made to the printer settings from the Printers folder become the default settings for most programs.

The I Want To menu

The I Want To menu displays when you open Print Properties. It contains a variety of task wizards-printing a banner, printing a poster, printing an envelope, printing on both sides of the paper- to help you select the correct print settings for your project. Close the menu for a full view of the Print Properties dialog box.

Print Properties tabs

All of the print settings are on the three main tabs of the Print Properties software: Quality/Copies, Paper Setup, and Print Layout.

Quality/Copies tab

Quality/Speed

  • Automatic, Quick, Normal, or Photo, depending on the quality of the output you want. Quick is the fastest option.

Multiple Copies

  • Collate Copies if you want to print more than one copy of a document. This option prints all the pages of the first copy, and then all the pages of the second copy, and so on.
  • Print Last Page First if you want to print the pages in reverse order.
  • The number of copies you want to print.

Paper Type

  • Use printer sensor to have your printer detect the paper type.
  • To see the paper type found, click view the paper type automatically detected.
  • Use my choice to make your own selection from the drop-down menu.

Select Print Color Images in Black and White to save the ink in your color cartridge.

Select Automatic Image Sharpening to automatically select the best image sharpening level based on image content.

Paper Setup tab

Paper Size

Paper, Envelope, Banner, or Borderless, and then select the size specific to your paper type. If your paper size is not listed, select Custom Size.

Orientation

Portrait or Landscape.

Print Layout tab

Normal, Banner, Mirror, N-up, Poster, Booklet or Borderless.

Duplexing

  • Two-Sided to print your document on both sides of the page.
  • Side Flip or Top Flip to set which way the pages of your finished documents turn.

Note:  If you select Side Flip, the pages of your document turn like the pages of a magazine. If you select Top Flip, the pages turn like the pages of a legal pad.

Note: For additional information about these settings, right-click a setting on the screen, and then select the What's This? item.

Save Settings menu

From the Save Settings menu, you can name and save the current Print Properties settings for future use. You can save up to five custom settings.

Options menu

Use the Options menu to make changes to the Quality Options, Layout Options, and Printing Status Options settings. For more information on these settings, open the tab dialog box from the menu, and then click the Help button on the dialog box, if the button is available.
