Lexmark recognises the need to comply with standard precautions for infection control and prevention of nosocomial infections through cross contamination from technology devices used in healthcare environments.

Lexmark devices have been designed with streamlined surfaces that allow for effective cleaning and reduced potential for the harboring of pathogens. Our washable touchscreens and devices are designed to withstand routine, robust and PRN cleaning and disinfecting.

We have recommended processes to maintain a clean and hygienic device that align with the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council’s Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare as well as the Therapeutic Goods Association Standard for Disinfectants and Sterilants (TGO 54). We also work closely with your local Infection Control teams to implement cleaning and disinfection protocols.

Point of Care Scanning

Point of Care Capture

[MP4 01:48]

Making the healthcare record available to clinicians at the point of care is a requirement of the Australian National Safety and Quality Health Service’s Clinical Governance Standard. Additionally, the Health Informatics Management Systems Society Analytics note that the most common challenges regarding reaching Stage 7 of the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model surrounds the use of paper medical records. To be validated as a Stage 7 hospital, all clinically relevant information must exist electronically in the EMR within 24 hours of creation, not 24 hours of discharge. Up-to date access to a complete version of a medical record is essential to safe clinical care.

A Lexmark smart MFP with an onboard application allows users to scan medical record documents directly into the HIM workflow from the point of care.

Patient Communication

Patient Communication

[MP4 00:48]

Maintaining current, easy-to-understand communications is critical to improving patient wellbeing and satisfaction

Communication implies understanding.  Requirements around literacy, language and culture are essential when supplying patients with healthcare literature. Then there’s the question of ensuring the information relates to the clinical needs of the patient. Using Type 2 diabetes and Renal Failure as examples, there are in excess of 130 fact sheets in the English language alone.  Add to that the many conditions and procedures you have factsheets on and the selection becomes overwhelming and the piles of brochures even higher.

Trying to find the correct information that is current, appropriate and patient related eventually becomes overwhelming and potentially risky.  And yes, where do you store them and what happens when they become out of date.

Downtime Assistant

Downtime Assistant

[MP4 01:16]

Continuity of care and patient safety are critical considerations for healthcare infrastructure. Downtime Assistant from Lexmark Healthcare solutions keeps clinical staff from missing a beat when systems or devices are down.

The device-based solution ensures that the most up-to-date forms and information are used, simplifies availability and works universally with all your business systems. Offline data access is critical to maintaining a clinical record in the event of planned or unplanned downtime. Cyber-attacks can paralyse a hospital for weeks with their effects lasting much longer. Looking after patients is risky where parts of the record are missing. Imagine what it’s like if it’s all gone.

The Lexmark Downtime Assistant interoperates with existing systems and maintain forms and patient data in the most recent version. It’s secure, doesn’t rely on an operational network, and supports the scanning of information ready for upload when the EMR becomes operational.

Advanced Output Management

Output Management

[MP4 01:27]

“Printed information in a healthcare setting is critical, and any disruptions to this workflow can keep clinicians from providing the highest level of patient care possible. Unfortunately, problems associated with printing delays happen all too often and can take time away from the care and support of patients. Access to information needs to be consistent, accurate and reliable.  Our Advanced Output Management ensures that.”

A recent study by Gartner estimates that as much as 50% of Help Desk calls are printer-related. Other studies indicate that, on average, businesses as a whole waste 14 percent of their revenue on document and print-related inefficiencies. Your technology team have more important issues to deal with and your clinicians are notoriously disinterested in fixing printers, especially if the issue was completely avoidable.

Managed Print Services is a key offering for the healthcare vertical and one that our customers are increasingly seeing value in. Although managing a printer fleet in a large healthcare enterprise may be logistically difficult, it’s a challenge that Lexmark is well suited to address.

An accurate view of the devices current status is essential to clinical continuity.  Maintaining your fleet should be easy, efficient and predictive.  Your clinicians don’t have time to fix printers.  Nor should it take up such a large portion of your Help Desk’s time.
