Under Maine’s household television and computer recycling law, consumer in Maine can return their unwanted covered devices to their local municipality. Manufacturers are responsible for the costs associated with the proper recycling of the returned products returned to the municipalities.

We encourage all of our customers to recycle their used electronics. All waste computer monitors, portable computers, digital picture frames, televisions, portable DVD players, desktop printers, and video game consoles generated by households in Maine must be recycled. Please contact your local municipality for information about how and where to recycle your e-waste in your area. On January 9, 2017, Governor Christie signed legislation that revised certain requirements of the State’s electronic waste management program under the “Electronic Waste Management Act” P.L.2007, c.347 as amended by P.L. 2008 c.130 and P.L. 2016, c.87 (N.J.S.A. 13:1E-99.94 et seq.) (the Act). 

The collection services provided to the citizens of New Jersey will be for all covered electronic devices (CEDs), including orphan devices, though some collection sites will also collect non-CEDs. No brand limitations will be placed on the service. No citizen will be charged a fee for dropping off a CED or other accepted devices.

Overview of Legislation

The NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act (Article 27, Title 26 of the Environmental Conservation Law) was signed into law by the Governor on May 28, 2010. The law will ensure that every New Yorker will have the opportunity to recycle their electronic waste in an environmentally responsible manner. The law requires manufacturers to establish a system for the collection, handling, and recycling or reuse of electronic waste. Manufacturers of covered electronic equipment (CEE) are responsible for implementing and maintaining an acceptance program for the discarded electronic waste, with oversight by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
